Pregnancy Q & A

What should I do after a positive home pregnancy test?

After a positive home pregnancy test, reach out to Seasons of Life Obstetrics & Gynecology. When you call, try to have an estimate of your last menstrual period start date and your insurance info.

The next step is confirming your pregnancy using an HCG test. A member of the Seasons of Life Obstetrics & Gynecology team sends a lab order for an HCG test to either your home or the lab of your choice.

The HCG results go straight to the Seasons of Life Obstetrics & Gynecology office, where a trained nurse reviews them and then reaches out to you. If the results aren't clear, you may need to take another HCG test. Your Seasons of Life Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse schedules your appointment when she calls you with the HCG test results.

When is my first ultrasound?

Your first prenatal visit usually occurs at about eight weeks gestation. In that visit, you'll have a transvaginal ultrasound to verify the baby's heartbeat, check for a multiple pregnancy, and designate a due date.

First-trimester ultrasounds can also check for ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. After your first ultrasound, you may schedule your initial prenatal visit with the Seasons of Life Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse.

What happens during my first prenatal visit?

During your first prenatal visit, the Seasons of Life Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse explains your prenatal care in full so you know what to expect. This visit is easy: All you have to do is listen, and then ask questions if you need more info afterward. You also get a prenatal packet to take home, as well as a lab order for your first trimester blood tests.

If you opt for genetic screening, you schedule that during this appointment. You'll also schedule your first appointment with your OB/GYN at this time.

How often will I see the OB/GYN during my pregnancy?

It depends on your needs. Most expectant mothers see their OB/GYN:

  • Monthly until week 28
  • Twice monthly in weeks 28-36
  • Weekly for weeks 36 until you give birth

Your plan may be different if you're in a high-risk category or if you or your baby has unusual health concerns.

What services can I expect during my pregnancy?
